Janice Makes Her Mark With A First Class Honours from UOW

Singaporean Janice Toh stamped her presence within the Informatics network by graduating with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of Wales for last semester.

“In fact, I am very happy to learn that I am one of top students for this programme.  At the same I am quite surprised as I did not expect to get a 1st class honours for this programme,” remarked Janice Toh, who is currently working in American Express Intl Inc. as an Analyst in the New Accounts Department processing balance transfer applications.  With the new qualification obtained, Janice may consider an internal job posting to another position within American Express or look out for marketing related positions outside of Amex.

Through the programme, she had learnt a great deal in Business Administration such as  management aspects like Business Finance, Strategic Management, topics of which were covered in much greater depth, that those that she had studied in her diploma.  She found that there is more in-depth teaching in the areas such marketing strategies and communications for this programme.  Furthermore, through this programme, she learnt how to manage her time well throughout her two and a half years of studies.  Overall, her learning experience at Informatics was good as the support staff were helpful, the lecturers were very helpful and knowledgeable on the subjects taught and the school provided a conducive studying environment.

“Actually there’s no secret to success for studying, its commitment and self-discipline which are the most important factors.  You must be able to prioritize your activities too.  Coupled with that, time management is also very important.  At the same time, you must be steady and consistent in your studies, for example, attending classes regularly and do your homework.  Also, part of my success in this programme is due to the foundation I had from my diploma in marketing. This gave me an added advantage,” added on Janice.  She elaborated further that she would definitely recommend this programme to anyone working full-time as the programme schedule is not too packed and hectic and its subjects are very focused for people studying on a part-time basis.

“When I pursued this course, I told myself I have to finish this programme as scheduled by the school. I prioritized my activities, for example, I tried not to go out too frequently with my friends.  My family members were very supportive so were my boss and colleagues at Amex. They have been very understanding during this period.  On the whole, my daily activities were not disrupted when I took up this course,” acclaimed Janice.  She still finds time to do her favourite hobbies like reading, singing Karaoke and doing handicrafts.  She is also interested in any activities related to Buddhism.  “I like to attend Dharma talks, do meditation and chanting. To me, spiritual development is considered  important as when I am stressed up with my studies, I will usually do some chanting and meditation to relax myself and it works for me,” commented Janice.
