Local IT school partners, with Singaporean firms

FILIPINO graduates of the Informatics Computer Institute, a Singapore-born information technology school that operates in the Philippines, will have the chance to work for Singaporean firms through the school's Informatics Certified Professional program (ICP), school officials said.

The Informatics Holdings Ltd and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore signed recently a memorandum of intent, an initial agreement that hopes to provide Filipino IT professionals an opportunity to work abroad.
In the agreement, graduates of the program will get the first crack at career opportunities in Singapore, Informatics officials said.The ICP is a two-track course: one deals with Web development, while the other deals with Internet applications development. The Web development course runs for 105 hours, while the Internet applications development course for 119 hours.

The Web development course teaches basic to advance development tools such as I-Net+, dynamic HTML (hypertext mark-up language for the Web), Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop and other existing tools used in today's Web
development. The Internet applications development course, on the other hand, features courses in Java and other Internet programming tools.

Established in 1983 in Singapore, Informatics now boasts of a global network of schools. It currently operates in more than 400 centers in over 35 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America.In 1994, a local Informatics subsidiary was established. One of the first schools was established in SM Megamall, one of the largest malls in Metro Manila. Since then, the school has grown to more than 40 centers and 100 partner schools.
