About Informatics Academy

The Informatics Academy has been institutionalized to ensure that its award, bearing the quality assurance mark, will be recognised and accepted by employers and universities for employment and transfer credit respectively.

The Informatics Academic Governance is the backbone on which the quality of our awards is judged. Collectively, the Academic Council interacts with the International Advisory Panel and thereby empowers Examination Council and Examination Board the authority to grant the Informatics Academy awards.

Represented by a group of respected and experienced academic leaders drawn from universities in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States of America, each member of the International Advisory Panel brings with them a wide range of educational leadership and management experience. The Academic Council is responsible for the academic affairs for Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Institute of Business, Finance and Management, Institute of Engineering and Institute of Knowledge Economy.

About the Programme

The programme is designed for those who have interests in the area of developing applications for the mobile devices such as a mobile phone or PDA. Students will be trained in understanding the concepts of emerging technologies in mobile computing and development of applications to be run on mobile devices.

The course aims to prepare qualified and skilled workforce to meet the challenges of the fast growing gaming industry.

E1010 - Introduction to Computers and Networking
This course provides students an introduction to computers and how networking is done. The module will familiarize students on the effective use and choice of computer systems for wireless and mobile technology. An understanding of network hardware and software will be essential for students when developing mobile application that run on networks and the Internet.


C1048 -Introduction to Java
This module teaches programming fundamentals, including data types and variables, statements and compound statements, expressions, selection and repetition, simple computation, and use of libraries. The module covers Java applications using the Java Platform, Standard Edition JDK. Students will also learn how to apply problem-solving skills and get ample practices in expressing solutions using Java.


C1047 - Mathematics for Communication Systems

This module will introduce students to the necessary related mathematics skills required in information and communication engineering. Topics included will prepare those proceeding for higher qualification in this field. Topics covered will be basic mathematics concepts presented through algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry and calculus. Students will get an introduction to the technical applications of these skills.


C1060 - Introduction to Mobile Computing

This module covers the various applications that pervade the m-commerce scene and the way business may be conducted in the future. Students will learn about the various applications already on the market as well as new services to be enjoyed by consumers. With this understanding, they will be able to consider both consumersĄŻand organizational requirements when developing software applications.


C1035 - Networking Essentials

This module provides an overview of networking. Key topics covered include networking concepts, network design, networking media, Network Interface Cards. An overview of Network Architecture, Communications Protocols such as the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and simple Network Operations will also be presented.


C1046 - Wireless and Communication Technology

In this module, students will learn the trends and evolvement in wireless communications systems. Some technology standards such as IEEE802.11, GSM, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) will also be covered.?Students will learn to other emerging technologies.


C1061 - Mobile Business Information Systems

Organizations depend on information systems and the use of technologies to maintain and gain a competitive edge. In this module, students are taught the concepts of information systems, and how information systems and the underlying technologies are used to gain competitive advantage. Topics covered include information processes, information needs, the system development life cycle, information system ethics, and computer crime and security issues.


C1025 - Structured Query Language
This module examines the fundamental principles and concepts of database systems to store and structure an organizationĄŻs information to drive its business functions. Students will learn to analyze data and perform data modeling and normalization to design an effective database, using relevant theories and concepts of relational database systems.
