The
Bachelor of Business (Computing) is offered to
students with Advanced Diploma in Info-Comm Technology
from Informatics or other equivalent qualifications.
The University awards all Professional Diploma
holders with the degree upon successful completion
of the on-campus modules.
This
programme is designed to provide students with
the necessary analytical, business and computing
skills and knowledge for the information technology
professional to effectively develop and manage
high quality business computing and information
systems in organizations. This programme is also
designed to meet the growing needs of the industry
for a new category of Information Technology professional.

INTE2103 E-Commerce & Technology 1
The overall aim is to provide students with an
initial appreciation of e-commerce and associated
technology. Students will be introduced in depth
to the World Wide Web and its basic tools, notably
HTML and JavaScript. They may also be introduced
briefly to some more advanced technologies such
as XML, ASP and PHP.

INTE2104 E-Commerce Technology 2
Offers a first hand experience of some key E-Commerce
technologies. The emphasis will be on using Microsoft
ASP.NET, database connectivity (ADO.NET), XML
and Web services to create E-Commerce sites. The
focus is on the technology issues but some lectures
also review key e-business aspects (eg security,
payment systems, architectures, B2B, customer-service
and e-business models). Most of the coding will
be in ASP.NET using VB.NET but there will also
be brief mentions of C#.

ISYS2369 Systems Analysis & Design 2
Develops an understanding of different system
development methodologies, with particular emphasis
on the Information Engineering method. Involves
a broader and more in-depth coverage of system
analysis and design within a larger organisation
and for more complex applications.

This module aims to assist students to develop
an understanding of contemporary issues in the
management of information systems and information
technology. Upon completion students will understand
the fundamental concepts and issues involved in
developing and managing the functioning of an
information systems organisational unit, with
reference to: business value of IT, strategic
IT, IT and business goals, IT as change agent,
IT infrastructure and communications, business
process re-engineering, managing systems development,
managing operating, end user computing project
management, outsourcing, change management, IT
education certification, professional development,
accountability social and ethical issues

ISYS1043 Systems Implementation 1
This module provides knowledge and understanding
of system development using object technology,
and the context in which this technology can be
applied. This involves a coverage of systems planning,
analysis, design and implementation within larger
organisations and for complex applications.

ISYS2050 Systems Implementation 2
This module gives students knowledge for building
enterprise applications. Students will develop
practical skills by designing and implementing
enterprise applications using a selected platform.
The course builds on the student’s knowledge
of object-oriented technology gained in ISYS1041
Systems Implementation 1.

This module is intended
to develop an appreciation of business decision-making
issues and Decision Support Systems, including
the associated mathematical modelling techniques.
A key objective is the prepare students
for a managerial decision-making role industry.

This module
presents database system development
concepts and techniques using MS Access
and Visual Basic. Topics include data
management, database design, queries,
introduction to SQL using Access and
VB, Interface design, forms, reports,
VB programming, structured programming
(principles and practice), programme
testing and documenting. Client/Server
Issues, ODBC and transaction processing.

This
module is on Network Theory
and Support (Windows). It provides
the necessary practical and
theoretical background to become
a MCSE. This course covers material
necessary for Windowdules 2000
Administration and Enterprise
Server, and consists of three
Microsoft units.

COSC2293 Data Communications
This module will
provide a broad introduction to the fundamentals
of data communications and network technology.
Emphasis is on higher aspects of data communications
from perspective of the computer scientist
and information technologist in the communication
of data, and the interaction of remote systems.

COSC1216 Web Media Technology
This module is designed
to show an overview of the rich-media environment.
Rich-media is a new term used to define
the enhanced experience of information streaming
into the user via various modalities. It
is a superset of the conventional concepts
of multimedia and also incorporates interactivity,
multi-modality and contextual response.
The course will include detailed case-study
descriptions of some of the more innovative
developments in human-computer interaction.
The course also encourages the incorporation
of accessibility features in the form of
a multi-modal model of communication.

COSC1503 Professional Computing Ethics, Law & Marketing
This module is an
introduction to computing ethics, law and
marketing. It is intended for IT students
who have not studied business principles,
or who have little work experience in the
industry. The course provides a survival
kit for IT graduates entering the work force.
The course considers computer ethical issues,
such as information privacy, computer crime,
computer terrorism. The course considers
the international legal framework available
to protect software system development.
This includes non-disclosure agreements,
employment contracts, intellectual property
law (copyright, patent, licensing, royalties),
trademarks and warranty disclaimers. The
course also considers the marketing of a
software system development, involving SWOT
analysis and action plan (including budget).
